The Party’s Over
The Party’s Over (Sunset at Pepper Point, Manitoulin)
Oil on canvas
16” x 20”
This photo was taken September 2016. Steve had been working out west since April and this was the second time he'd been home. Pepper Point is where his summer trailer is located, and was a place we made a makeshift home (makeshift as in it was a trailer and we stayed there lots but not forever). This time was really stormy for me, I struggled to find myself and took a lot of crap. Amidst that, I had this beautiful sunset. I always see beautiful clouds and lighting as a gift from God and this was definitely that.
This painting is an exploration of hope. It forced my to unpack the beautiful things I was holding on to and let them go too. When you lose a partner, you lose both the bad and the good. Truly you just make room for more things to come.
I listened to "When the Party's Over" by Billie Eilish while painting this.
